[Indications] Eliquis is used to prevent venous thromboembolism (venous thrombosis) in adults after hip or knee replacement. It is also used for adult treatment of deep vein thrombosis (Deep vein thrombosis, usually in the leg) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the blood vessels of the blood supply) and prevent it from happening again.
In addition, Eliquis is used to prevent blood clots in other organs of stroke (caused by blood clots in the brain) and adult atrial fibrillation (irregular rapid contraction of the upper chamber of the heart). It is used in patients with one or more risk factors, such as having a stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, or 75 years of age or older.

[Usage and Dosage] For patients with hip or knee replacement, Eliquis should be used.
24 hours after surgery. The recommended dose is a 2.5 mg tablet twice daily, usually one month after the hip replacement (32 to 38 days) or 10 to 14 days after the knee. For patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke or thrombosis, the recommended dose is 5 mg twice daily.
For the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, the recommended dose is 10 mg twice daily for the first week and then twice daily for 5 mg for at least 3 months. To prevent deep vein thrombosis and re-emergence of pulmonary embolism, the recommended dose is 2.5 mg twice daily.
