Mitotane is an adrenal cortex inhibitor that works by selectively suppressing the function of adrenal cortical cells. It is primarily used in the treatment of adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare cancer of the adrenal gland — including cases that are inoperable, have metastasized, or have recurred following surgery.
