Pramipexole is a non-ergot dopamine receptor agonist that works by selectively stimulating dopamine D2/D3 receptors, helping to compensate for reduced dopaminergic neurotransmission. It is primarily used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, either alone or in combination with levodopa; the extended-release formulation is also used to treat moderate to severe primary restless legs syndrome.
