Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive effects, and is also used to replace insufficient cortisol production in the body. It is primarily used in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency (such as Addison's disease) and congenital adrenal hyperplasia, conditions that require long-term hormone replacement therapy.
